Senior School Library and Resource Centre

The Library and Resource Centre at AESG is staffed by Mrs R Wood, who is a Chartered Librarian. This provides a stimulating and supportive environment to encourage and help students become independent learners working to achieve their potential, by selecting stock which:

  • reinforces the school curriculum
  • provides a broad and balanced range of up to date books and other information media
  • supports their homework needs
  • provides for their leisure and recreational needs

This facility is used for students' independent study and contributes to the development of the skills necessary to being an effective learner in school and throughout life.

Library Skills classes enable students to gain confidence in using information retrieval skills when dealing with a wide range of resources.

The library aims to increase students' awareness of the significance of books and reading for pleasure through themed 'taster sessions' of new books and through partnership with the English Department and the Reading Award Scheme.

The weekly "Page Turners" book club is well supported and provides excellent opportunity to discuss favourite books and to take part in fun book-based activities in a relaxed setting.

The library has links with other school libraries and local bookshops and takes part in local and national literature initiatives.

Every student in the Senior School is automatically a member of the library and is welcome to use the facilities during school opening hours.

Mrs Wood is available from 10am to 3pm each day to give Professional help and advice on all aspects of reading and using the Library.
